Gratien & Meyer Cremant De Loire Rosé, £12.50

Peter Morrell, Editor comments “I have tasted this sparkler and for the price it delivers a lot. The wine is a blend of four grapes, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Chenin Blanc, each play their part in contributing to the aromas and flavours. Like many modern rosés it pours a pale pink colour, and in the glass produces a good stream of small bubbles. The nose offers aromas of strawberries, white cherries, brioche, and hints of citrus. In the mouth it has a creamy texture and is medium bodied. On the palate the fruit and yeasty flavours remain and are joined by apple and stronger citrus notes. Good acidity makes is very crisp and ideal to drink with food. The finish is bright, fruity, and lingering.

This is a high quality, elegant wine from Gratien & Meyer, who have been around since 1864, so it has an excellent pedigree. Drink as an aperitif or pair with smoked salmon and light summer salads.”
