People say you are a product of your environment and from the team at Devil’s Corner we can see why. Their home winery on the East Coast of Tasmania is a place like no other: wild, and wildly rewarding.
The team’s bold yet humble approach to winemaking embraces a unique adventurous spirit to create wines like nowhere else. The Devil’s Corner team never fights against the elements, but rather, knows when to lean into them, when to hold up, and when to harness the weather to go even bolder with the fruit, fresher with the fizz and brighter with the acidity. Because they reckon Tasmanian wine tastes better with both the wild and the tame.
“Tasmanian wines have amazing fruit potential and concentration, and we are known for being one of the best places on earth to grow Pinot Noir. But we’re also at the mercy of nature, we believe in letting the vineyards and grapes express themselves in the wines, with minimal intervention in the winemaking process,” says Tom Wallace, Devil’s Corner senior winemaker.
Tom is excited by the opportunity to introduce UK consumers to the exceptional wines that Tasmania produces. “This will be the biggest and most exciting wine launch for the year, UK is an exciting opportunity for both the Devil’s Corner brand and brand Tasmania.”
Devil’s Corner Pinot Noir 2023, £15
Peter Morrell, Editor comments “I have recently tasted the Devil’s Corner Pinot Noir and can understand why it’s ranked as the *#1 Pinot Noir in Australia. The wine pours a mid to dark ruby colour and the bouquet is bright and fresh with pronounced raspberry and cherry aromas and hints of oak and vanilla in the background. In the mouth the body of the wine is just to the light side of medium, and the lively acidity makes it ideal to drink with food.
“On the palate the fruits remain and are joined by earthy tones, cedar, black pepper, and cranberries. The tannins are well balanced and smooth, due to the wine having been aged for 3 to 4 months in French oak. This maturing process is also the reason the complex flavours on the palate. The finish is long with persistent fruit and spice notes.
“Drink this wine with BBQ meats, roast shoulder of lamb, and strong cheeses.”
