The Wakefield Estate Shiraz 2021 is soft and fleshy, with a vibrant burst of juicy red berries, plum and spice, delicious served just slightly chilled on a warm afternoon, at 14.5% ABV. And thanks to the clever thermo-chromatic sensor on the back label, you’ll always know when it’s at its refreshing best. The wine pairs beautifully with red meat, such as beef, lamb, and venison.

Born from a dream to create a world-class wine from South Australia’s Clare Valley, the Taylor family took inspiration from the grand wine houses of Bordeaux. The name ‘Estate’ is a proud nod to that tradition, wines crafted where the vineyard and winery share the same home. While not all fruit is grown on the original estate, cooler climate varietals like Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc are sourced from premium sites across South Australia, every wine is still crafted and bottled on-site, preserving full control from grape to bottle.

A bold yet approachable Shiraz, bursting with ripe red berries, plum and warming spice, balanced by subtle notes of chocolate and savoury oak. This is a crowd-pleaser with enough complexity to elevate any summer spread.

The first wines released, a Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon, remain the heart and soul of the range today. From the outset, the Taylor family were drawn to the idea of complete control over the winemaking process, from grape to bottle.

Wakefield Estate Shiraz is available from Asda stores and online at £11.97.

About Wakefield

Taylors began searching for a piece of land where they could establish their vineyard. After a long search, they finally found an area by the Wakefield River in the Clare Valley region covering 178 hectares which was perfect for setting up their vineyard. The Terra Rossa soils of the region proved adequate for the growth and yield of optimum premium – quality fruit. The cool nights and warm days of Clare Valley are also an essential factor in the growth of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes planted here.

Taylors decided to settle in the Clare Valley region because they were convinced that the Terra Rossa soils of the area would prove fruitful for the grapes. This was the result of a surprise discovery that they made during the excavation of the dam in the vineyard. They found the fossilized remains of tiny seahorses in the limestone bedrock of the dam. This ensured that this region had once been the bed of an inland sea. As a consequence, the seahorse was adopted as the symbol for the winery. Today, the three seahorses of Taylors Wines pay tribute to the three generations of expert winemaking that the winery has provided to the world.
