The Hilton London Metropole Hotel

Peter Morrell takes a look at this luxurious and well-positioned hotel in central London

The season of serious shopping and festive fun is upon us once more and the best place to combine these activities is in central London. To make the most of your time you need a place to stay that is both comfortable and well located.

I recently took a look at the Hilton London Metropole hotel which is a stroll from Oxford Street and Bond Street, just up the road from Hyde Park where this year’s Winter Wonderland opens in mid November, close to the tube which will take you to the Royal Albert Hall and a five minute walk from the Heathrow Express. So the well located box is very firmly ticked.

The hotel itself is very luxurious and the public spaces are well appointed. From the minute to go through the revolving door into the newly refurbished reception area you can sense the style and sophistication. On the ground floor is the Edg bar with a quiet lounge area to one side, you can get a range of food, drinks and cocktails here. I can personally recommend the Earl Grey Martini, made with Beefeater gin which has been infused with the tea for 24 hours and served with lemon and apple juice.

For the discerning whisky lover the Whisky Lounge has more than 70 different types and you can sit in ‘Gentleman’s Club’ comfort for a tasting while you can admire the unique chandelier which is made from whisky decanters.

For a quick bite the Herb N’ Kitchen is a grab and go service if you want a coffee and a sandwich before indulging in some retail therapy. Sports enthusiasts are not forgotten, in the Sports Bar all the big events are shown on wide screens while you can enjoy a beer and a snack.

For dinner with a view Sky 23 on the top floor of the hotel offers unparalleled vistas over the London skyline while back on the ground floor the Fiamma restaurant serves high quality Mediterranean food. I dined in Fiamma when I was there and you can read my review here…

After all this eating and drinks you have the opportunity to get back in shape at the LivingWell health club or by taking a swim in the adjacent glass-roofed pool and then relaxing in the sauna or steam room.

The hotel is one of the largest conference facilities in Europe and has more than 1000 rooms. The rooms are in five different categories entry level, deluxe, superior, executive and suites. All of the rooms have WiFi, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, an ironing board and a hair dryer. The executive rooms have their own dedicated lounge which is stocked with drinks and snacks.

I had a peek at a couple of the rooms, the deluxe has cool décor and are on the upper floors, so the views are spectacular. The superior rooms have two queen size beds and many have interconnecting doors making them ideal for families.

So she Hilton London Metropole could be the perfect place for your next visit to London. It’s a well appointed hotel with lots of amenities to make your stay as comfortable as possible. It’s also ideally located for both leisure and business guests.
