Before starting I must make a declaration, Le Café du Marché is one of my favourite French restaurants in London. Founded 32 years ago it has become an institution and in that time the quality of the food, level of service and its ambience have never wavered. Although staying as a restaurant Le Café du Marché is now also a characterful private events venue, offering an authentic taste of France.
Le Café du Marché is tucked away down a cobbled mews in historic Smithfield, close to Barbican and Farringdon and serves delicious classic French cuisine that can be tailored for your needs. You can give your event a special French twist with live music from their resident jazz band.
Still family run their personal and tailored service will ensure your event runs smoothly whether it’s entertaining clients, marking a birthday or enjoying a celebratory wedding breakfast.
The high-ceilinged first floor private dining room, Le Grenier “the attic”, has large windows and characterful oak panelling, creating a rustic French atmosphere in the centre of London.
The room is self-contained with its own entrance, bar, toilets, and kitchen. The light and airy space seats up to 62 people for lunch or dinner and up to 120 for canapés, but is also cosy enough to suit smaller groups too.
The semi private room Le Rendezvous on the ground floor seats up to 35 and the whole restaurant can be hired for parties of 150 to 300 people.
I went along recently to see Le Grenier and was highly impressed with it’s cosy, rustic decor. The canapés were of the same high standard as the food in the main restaurant. The room had been dressed with flowers and the jazz band was cool and sophisticated. To further demonstrate their skills the chefs had prepared a spectacular Croquembouche, a traditional French wedding cake made from profiteroles. The whole package has a magical Gallic touch
This is a lovely venue for a special occasion that will make it enduringly memorable
