This autumn, the city of Munich will proudly celebrate its brewing prowess for the 185thannual Oktoberfest! Despite its name the festival actually takes place from 22 September – 7 October and flybmioffers double daily flights directly to the city from Bristol.
Set within a whopping 34.5 hectares, the festival is home to some 545 businesses selling everything from beers and wines to food and gifts. Also new for 2018 are four fun rides to keep visitors young and old entertained. The high adrenaline rides will swing, spin, fly and drop participants through the air with hair-raising speed and height and have names including the ‘The Pendulum of Chaos’ and ‘The Predator’.
The festival commences at noon on Saturday 22 September when the Mayor of Munich officially taps the first keg of Oktoberfest beer in the Schottenhamel tentand it will open daily from 10am until midnight. Entry to the festival itself is free, visitors will just need to pay for their drinks, souvenirs, rides and any other purchases.
It’s open to all, with families particularly welcome on Tuesdays, which are always designated ‘family fun days’ with the fair ground and many vendors offering special promotions. The festival closes on Sunday 7 October at 11.30pm.
