Now that misty mornings are here it’s time for more hearty food. Peter Morrell suggests some matching wines for warming dishes

Louis Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir Couvent des Jacobins 2015

A fragrant, medium bodied, elegant wine. Harmonious and balanced, with a deliciously plump fruitiness and silky texture offset by round, gentle tannins complemented by a lovely long finish. Perfect for those cooler nights.

Editor’s notes: This wine from one of the most reputable producers in Burgundy. This medium bodied wine has fresh red berry and soft fruit in the bouquet. This persists in the mouth and is joined by silky smooth tannins with hints of vanilla and warming spices. The finish is long and satisfying. Pair with steaks and beef stews.

Cune Reserva 2014

A lovely Rioja that’s both floral and fruity, with sweet aromas of the warming spices gained from the 18-month barrel ageing process. The silky, fresh finish provides a fabulously long and complex finish.

Editor’s notes: The dark red colour of this wine is as deep as its character. There are strong aromas of plum and dark cherry on the nose. On the palate the fruit is enhanced with leather and cedar notes and very rounded and well balanced tannins. The finish is strong and persistent. Drink this wine with steaks and game casseroles.
