First lager in UK to use pressed as well as malt barley from the people that brought you Hiver beers
FABAL, a unique, all-English premium lager from award-winning beer producer, Hiver, will launch on Thursday 27 February 2020.
A sophisticated, artisanal lager, FABAL has a delicate apple blossom nose, with a grainy malt body, followed by a clean and refreshing dry finish.
With all-English ingredients and packaging, FABAL has a low carbon footprint and is committed to provenance and sustainability, making it the perfect choice for those who seek to live their values through the products they buy.
From the Hiver brand, best known for its honey beer range and renowned for its provenance, authenticity and values, FABAL is made with the same heart and attention to detail and is the first beer in a new brand family.
FABAL represents a truly innovative way of producing a lager that is both delicate and subtle. It is the only lager in the UK to use pressed barley, which is steamed and rolled to give it its crisp and dry character alongside roasted malted barley, for a finely balanced sweetness. In addition, it has an extended maturation period of six weeks for natural carbonation.
It will appeal to those lager lovers seeking a truly classic lager style with a delicate, balanced flavour. In blind taste tests, FABAL more than held its own against other premium brands.
Founder and creator of FABAL, Hannah Rhodes said: “Hiver launched six years ago and has enjoyed much success, but for a long time, we’ve wanted to produce other beer styles with the same ethos in terms of quality, innovation and sustainability.
“When we were looking at alternative profiles in lager, we were always interested in the way rice gave this type of beer a dry character. However, it was important to me that anything we produce showcases the best UK ingredients and so the challenge was on to create a delicate lager with only English ingredients, so we explored native ingredients like pressed barley that gave the same effect.
“FABAL is totally different and innovative; it is easy for flaws to show in such a delicate lager, but this tastes perfectly crisp and refreshing, with the magic coming from the grain. We hope it is a classic and homegrown premium lager that UK consumers can be proud of.”
The name FABAL is derived from the Latin for ‘the human being as the maker or creator – a craftsperson or artisan’.
FABAL is an accredited ‘Slow Food’ product meaning it passes this global movement’s criteria for being ‘good, clean and fair’.
As a perfect ‘with food’ beer, famous hotel The Dorchester was the first to list Fabal as the house lager in their recently reopened main restaurant, The Grill.
If you’re looking for a lager to relax at home with, FABAL can be enjoyed as an aperitif with salty bar snacks and cold cuts or alongside rich salad dressings, creamy desserts or a seafood platter and lobster. And as a vegan-friendly beer, it’s also a great match with seasonal British asparagus.
FABAL (4%ABV) is available at www.hiverbeers.co.uk or https://allgoodbeer.co.uk/collections/lagers-pilsners/products/fabal-lager for £3.50 per 330ml bottle.
