Mainbrace Rum has won a silver award in the ‘Super Premium Gold Rum’ Category in the Rum and Cachaça Masters annual awards
Launched at the tail end of 2019, Mainbrace Rum has already made waves in the industry, most recently taking home the Silver award for the “Gold Rum – Super Premium” category at the Rum & Cachaça Masters 2020 competition, held by The Spirits Business.
Taking place every year, The Rum & Cachaça Masters competition is a drive to reward the finest rum and cachaça brands on the world stage. This year, it revealed particularly interesting results – rum’s popularity is on the rise, with sales topping £1 billion in the UK alone. In this booming market, Mainbrace Rum stands out as the first bottled blend of rum from Martinique and Guyana, made with a premium blend of unaged Agricole from Martinique and a unique selection of 2-5-year-old rums from 3 different stills on the banks of the Demerara River in Guyana.
With this unique blend of rums, Mainbrace offers a balanced and smooth flavour. Judges commented on the “oaky but spirit-y taste with a hint of bananas, coconut, and sweet white chocolate and a nose of vanilla and ginger cake”. As a balanced rum, Mainbrace has become very popular and is increasing in distribution across Cornwall and beyond.
Richard Haigh, Co-Founder of Mainbrace Rum, commented:
“As a new rum brand with increasing distribution, we have been overwhelmed by the positive feedback from consumers, press, and trade since our launch at RumFest in October 2019. It is an honour to receive this Silver award from the Rum & Cachaça Masters and we hope this is just the beginning of an equally successful and exciting year ahead.”
With this full-flavoured flavour profile, Mainbrace Rum can be enjoyed on its own as a sipping rum or in a range of cocktails, which you can find recipes for on the Mainbrace website.

About Mainbrace Rum
Mainbrace Rum was born on a sunny day at The Ferry Boat Inn in Helford Passage, Cornwall. Watching the gig rowers come into the pub for a celebratory drink after a race, the Haigh family decided to make a drink that captured the essence of Cornwall – crews celebrating teamwork.
The Haigh family and Liam Jones, then-Bar Manager of the Ferryboat Inn, and set off on their journey to create a rum that could be enjoyed as a sipping rum or in a cocktail. Over the 18 months that followed, the Haighs and Liam tested various blends of flavours, branding, and bottle designs, eventually settling on the current product which captures the punch of an Agricole and the sweetness of a Guyanese rum. These are two styles that have never been exclusively bottled before.
Mainbrace Rum was then launched at London’s RumFest in October 2019. Following this success, the Haighs and Liam have been concentrating their efforts on making Mainbrace Rum available in its “hometown” … Cornwall.
Traditionally crafted with a modern twist, Mainbrace is a unique golden ‘spliced’ rum. A premium blend of unaged agricole from Martinique and a unique selection of 2-5-year-old rums from 3 different stills on the banks of the Demerara River in Guyana.
A saying synonymous with celebration, “Splice the Mainbrace” was born from courage, loyalty and teamwork. It embodies the spirit of celebrating a hard-won victory. Originating in the heart of battle, a brave team of sailors would attempt to “splice the mainbrace” if it was damaged to save the main mast of a ship – a difficult, but vital task. If they succeeded, they would be rewarded with a double ration of rum to celebrate along with a toast to “the Queen – God bless her”. The sweetest victories always come after the hardest of battles.
‘Spliced’ not Spiced
Mainbrace is produced using locally sourced sugar cane as well as traditional pot and column still distillation. The same methods and stills were used to create rum for the British Navy as far back as 1732. We believe our rum speaks for itself and that is why there are no sweeteners or colourings added to our blend. It is not a spiced rum as there are no spices added either.
