Tesco Finest English Sparkling Rosé Brut NV 12% abv, £20.00 (vegan)

This refreshing rosé sparkling is again produced from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from the Hush Heath vineyards, but here they are crafted into a beautiful pale coral-hued wine. Dry, crisp and elegant with lifted wild strawberry and citrus notes, this makes a sensational aperitif or partner to light, fruit-based desserts.

Tesco Finest English White 11.5% abv, £11.00 (vegan)

International Wine Challenge 2021 Bronze Medal Winner

Made from Pinot Blanc, Bacchus and Chardonnay, this exceptionally aromatic white wine combines notes of fresh hedgerow, bright citrus and white flowers. It is dry, crisp and very refreshing, with flavours of zesty lemon, pear and subtle white peach.

Botham & Balfour English Rosé 11.5% abv, £12.00 (vegan)

Sir Ian Botham OBE, one of the greatest English cricketers and now an accomplished winemaker, joined forces with Hush Heath Estate to create this soft, pale pink wine. An elegant English rosé, it boasts fragrances of citrus fruit and orchard blossom, with a subtle touch of spice.

Peter Morrell, Editor comments “This range is a showcase of the quality wines that English winemakers are now producing. The chalkland “terroir” where the grapes are grown is identical to the geology of the Champagne region. This, combined with warmer weather, creates the ideal conditions for the production of world beating wines.

Three of these wines have been lovingly produced by Richard and Leslie Balfour-Lynn on their Hush Heath estate in Kent. I’ve paid a visit to the vineyard; it is in a beautiful location and the dedicated team carefully manage the vines and produce outstanding wines.

I have tasted the Botham & Balfour English Rosé. This wine pours a delicate salmon pink colour. There is fresh and uplifting raspberry and citrus aromas in the bouquet. On the palate the soft summers fruits persist and are joined by apple blossom and apricot flavours. There is muted acidity with a slight astringency which makes the wine very refreshing. An uplifting clean and fruity finish is the finale to a particularly good glass of wine.

You can drink this as an aperitif or pair it with seafood, fish, and it works well with southeast Asian dishes.”
