Modern British dining, external catering, and a new multi-use studio to mark 8 years at the top
Local Dalston icon Jones & Sons are famed for serving the very best in relaxed modern British cuisine alongside a bespoke wine list and classic and house cocktails from around the world. Nestled in a cosy, candlelit private courtyard in a former Victorian textile factory, weekends here are legendary with their Bottomless Brunches and Sunday Roasts loved amongst locals and Londoners alike.
With an electrifying atmosphere coupled with considered details, founder Andy Jones’ vision was to create a space for people to meet, eat, and relax in a comfortable, modern setting. The menu, updated every six weeks with meats soured from The Ginger Pig is a celebration of modern relaxed dining.
Set across 160-covers at full capacity (PDR, Main Room & Courtyard), diners can choose to be seated in the main restaurant, Private dining room, courtyard or propped-up at the bar. Drawing inspiration from the building’s industrial heritage and post-war Danish design, interior highlights include 11 metres of marble-topped bar and open kitchen to compliment the hand-picked mid-century Scandinavian furniture, lights from a marine salvage specialist Trinity Marine in Exeter and a hand poured concrete and resin mix floor. Whether sat inside or in the beautiful, decked courtyard there is always something to watch, from the chef team busily working in the open plan kitchen to other people in the courtyard from neighbouring business Brunswick East.
Celebrating or Simply Sitting Back: Dinner, Brunch, and Roasts
Open Tuesday to Friday for dinner, guests can expect to feast on starters of 63 Degree Duck Egg, Asparagus, Lardo, Spenwood, Summer Truffle Shavings and Cured Sea Trout, Gooseberry, Elderflower Buttermilk, Cucumber, alongside mains of Braised Pork Belly, Octopus, Fermented Hispi, Dashi and Pan Roasted Turbot, Oyster Velouté, Girolles, Sea Herbs. Dessert completes the tasty picture, coming in the form of Whipped White Chocolate & Buttermilk Panna Cotta, Grilled Peach, Honeycomb and Strawberry Bakewell Tart, Pistachio, Almond & Lemon Gelato. For those with a real hunger, their Grill menu includes premium steak options such as 280g 28 Day Herefordshire Rib Eye and 1.2kg Cote de Beouf, each served with perfectly paired sides.
Also open at the weekends, Jones & Sons adds to their wide variety of modern British cuisine through their tantalising Sunday Roast and brunch offering. Diners can look forward to starting their weekend the right way, choosing from classic brunch dishes such as a Char-grilled Full English to shake off the remnants of the night before, or venture out into the Smoked Haddock on Toast, Poached Egg, Spinach, and Hollandaise sauce, or stay sweet with Belgian Waffles, Pecans, Toffee Sauce, and Honeycomb Ice Cream. With a choice of Bloody Mary, Prosecco, or Buck’s Fizz, make brunch bottomless for a truly celebratory experience. Not only that, but Sunday brings with it the opportunity to delve into a British past-time and enjoy a roast lunch or dinner. Try the Slow Roast Hampshire Pork Belly, Welsh Leg of Lamb, or the Roast Herefordshire Rib Eye, served with all the necessary trimmings, that of course includes the unbeatable Yorkshire pudding.
The Catering & Events Arm
Having built a brand over the last 8 years that people travelled far and wide to visit, Andy decided that it was time to spread the word further afield. A separate external catering and events business was established. Which after being open for a year, that has grown from strength to strength. Now catering daily to film & TV shoots, production companies, photographic studios and some of the worlds biggest fashion houses such as the team at Alexander McQueen. The food is not only carefully curated and delicious, but also a feast for the eyes. His team of passionate chefs and enthusiastic staff are at the heart of what has become a much talked about brand.
So, what next? Well, when a 8000 Sq foot open plan wedding venue & studio space close to the restaurant became available, it was an opportunity too good to be missed. Jones signed the lease and ‘Studio Jones’ was born. With a passion for creativity the Jones team have stripped back the double studio attic space, to leave its beautiful bare wooden walls as the perfect backdrop for photo shoots, weddings and even music videos.
“During the past year I didn’t take a single backward step. As I had the catering vans, we transitioned to home delivery in the very first weekend of the first lockdown. Our ‘finish at home’ Sunday lunches were an instant hit and we served hundreds of people every week. This extended into 3 course Christmas Dinner, a New Years Eve menu and Valentines. The experience of the pandemic made us a stronger team with adaptability being our main focus. We never used other delivery platform, such as Deliveroo or Uber eats, we kept our own staff in work and controlled our product.
Now the Wedding Venue, Studio Jones, is the main focus, we have catered over 120 weddings in 8 years all across London and the Southeast and curating incredible days for our wedding couples is what drives that side of the business, this now paired with our own in house wedding planner and incredible Wedding venue, what more do you need?
From starting with a 42 cover restaurant on Arcola street 8 years ago things have really grown and now having the 3 distinct areas that Jones & Sons operates in, couldn’t make me any happier.”, says Andy Jones, Jones & Sons Group, Founder.
