Celebrate the Platinum Jubilee with these Glorious Afternoon Teas

This year, we’ll all be raising a glass to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in celebration of the 70th year of her incredible reign. These spectacular Afternoon Teas have been created especially with her Platinum Jubilee in mind

Chelsea Afternoon Tea
The Chelsea Harbour Hotel & Spa

With its stunning views of yachts and boats bobbing atop Chelsea Harbour, the panorama alone makes for a unique afternoon tea experience in itself.

Served in the hotel’s calming cream-coloured dining-room, where floor to ceiling windows allow unobscured harbour views, this elegant afternoon tea pays homage to the occasion with celebratory platinum-rimmed china and fragrant loose tea poured through a dainty strainer.

The ‘ceremony’ begins with a selection of delicate finger sandwiches. Simple but delicious and believed to be favourites of Her Majesty, the combinations include smoked salmon with herbed cream cheese, egg and cress and ham and mustard, all on brown and white bread. A choice of plain and sultana scones are freshly-baked and come with obligatory pots of jam and clotted cream. At the pinnacle of the experience (and the tea tower) comes a pretty selection of cakes and fancies including the Queen’s much-loved flavours; expect lemon macarons and filled miniature choux buns, as well as seasonal strawberry tartelettes and individual cheesecake.

Baileys Afternoon Tea
The Baileys Hotel

London’s first purpose-built hotel opened its grand doors at the height of Queen Victoria’s reign in 1870, and has been serving its historic afternoon teas ever since.

Now, 150 years later, and in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee, The Bailey’s afternoon tea is a fittingly Great British Affair with timeless classics running throughout.

Served on pretty floral china, the experience begins with dainty cut sandwiches with fillings inspired by Great British food traditions such as Ploughman’s, Gentleman’s Relish, Fish paste and Cucumber. Pillowy-soft scones are served plain and fruited, ready to dollop with jam and clotted cream.

A Jubilee celebration calls for Jubilee-worthy cakes and guests can expect the likes of ‘Elizabeth’ Sponge’ mini Eton Mess, mini spotted dicks and Bakewell Tarts. A thoroughly British affair indeed.
