Peter Morrell, Editor comments “I have been tasting Warner’s London Dry, and it really is delicious. All the gin are made with loving care by Tom Warner and his team at Falls Farm in rural Northamptonshire. The flavourings for the London Dry are a mix of local and exotic botanicals – Juniper, Lemon Peel from a local food producer, Coriander, Elderflower, Cinnamon, Almond, Nutmeg, and farm-grown Angelica Root, Lavender, and Lemon Verbena.

My first tasting was by drinking it neat. The bouquet was very powerful, offering strong Juniper aromas underpinned by distinct floral and citrus notes. The gin was smooth and sweet, and as it developed on the palate there was a refreshing burst of mouth filling flavours. A good tang of Lemon and Elderflower joined the resinous Juniper taste. There was a background of spices, and distinct hints of Lavender. The floral finish was strong and persistent.

I then made a couple of cocktails, to see how the gin performed with mixers. The first was a Negroni, one part each of Warner’s London Dry Gin, Campari and Cinzano Rosso poured over ice in an old-fashioned glass, then stirred and garnished with a twist of orange peel. A real winner, with the sweetness of the gin contrasting with the bitterness of the Campari.

The second tasting just had to be the most famous of all gin-based cocktails, the Martini. A shaker full of ice, one-part Noilly Prat, two parts Warner’s London Dry Gin, then ‘shaken not stirred’ and poured into a chilled martini glass and garnished with an olive. This was well balanced with the floral and spice tones in the gin working well with the more herbaceous taste of the vermouth.

I was impressed with this multi-award-winning gin, it’s aromas and flavours make it a pleasure to drink neat or over ice, and it is also an ideal base for cocktails, and G&Ts. Any of the Warner range of gins or the mini bundle will make a much-appreciated present for you Mum.
