As we head towards the end of summer, there’s still time to explore new and exciting wines for those last few BBQs, warm days in the garden and picnics in the park. Or why not save a bottle for the first autumnal evening snuggled up with a blanket? With over 60 new arrivals hitting the wine aisle this month – from refreshing sparklings, crisp whites and fruity reds – there’s something new for every taste, budget and occasion as we transition to cooler temperatures.

A snapshot of some of the new wines landing in Tesco stores and online this month:

Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Rosé Sauvage NV, 12% abv, £45.00 (vegan)

This delicious sparkling rosé has an intense pink colour. It is juicy and fresh with aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants and strawberries. On the palate the berries linger with a hint of spice, making it perfect for that extra special celebration or fancy meal.

Simonnet-Febvre Cremant de Bourgogne Brut, 12% abv, £15.00 (vegan)

Made in the traditional method by one of the oldest Chablis producers in France, this sparkling wine is full of fresh, fine bubbles, with intense aromas of citrus on the nose. Wonderful served on its own as an apéritif or alongside barbecued seabass.

Rustenberg Wild Ferment Unwooded Chardonnay, 13% abv, £12.00

From the Stellenbosch region of South Africa, this Chardonnay is wild-fermented, using only native yeasts that are found on the fruit and in the vineyard. Fruity, with bright citrus aromas and has a crisp finish, it will pair beautifully with a lightly spiced Thai beef or caprese salad.

Cono Sur Reserva Especial Riesling, 12.5% abv, £10.00 (vegetarian)

This Chilean Riesling, produced by world-renowned Cono Sur, is bursting with intense notes of white peach, orange blossoms and grapefruit. Elegant on the palate with a gorgeous balance of sweetness and acidity, this white wine goes very well alongside spicy prawns or a tofu stir-fry.

Piccodoro Fiano, 12.5% abv, £5.75 (vegan)

Made exclusively for Tesco from Fiano grapes native to southern Italy, this refreshing white wine boasts a tropical bouquet with scents of ripe apples and stone fruit. A perfect balance between body and acidity makes this a wonderful addition to summer salads or chicken piccata.

Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz, 14.5% abv, £30.00

First made in 1959, Penfolds Bin 28 is a blend, for which the best grapes are used from multiple regions including McLaren Vale and the Barossa Valley. The nose displays strong plum aromas, with spicy dark chocolate and liquorice flavours on the palate, resulting in a delicious match for seared steak or grilled aubergines.

Angelica Zapata Malbec, 13.5% abv, £28.00 (vegan)

Produced in the Mendoza region of Argentina with a blend of Malbec grapes sourced from the highest-quality vineyards, this hearty wine is incredibly smooth with velvety tannins. Full of ripe plum jammy flavours with a soft, supple mouthfeel, pair this wine with barbecued steaks or mushroom parmigiana.

La Burgondie Moulin à Vent, 12.5% abv, £12.00 (vegan)

From the Beaujolais hills of France, this delicate red is intense on the nose, with strong aromas of ripe red berries. On the palate, there are predominantly notes of red fruit, with silky soft tannins which give a velvety finish. This goes perfectly alongside a plate of charcuterie and is perfect for picnics.
