Visitors to London’s South Bank who might not have the time or the appetite for the full cultural blow outs of Tate Modern or the Hayward can now find some bite sized art at a new free exhibition – and follow it with some discounted dining.

Bankside Hotel in Upper Ground, just a block from the river, has turned its blank space White Box function room into a gallery to showcase what it describes as the ‘remarkable talents of emerging artists’. Some have been artists in residence at the hotel since it opened five years ago. Others are newcomers for whom this is an opportunity to showcase their work.

Curated by Bankside’s partners, the Contemporary Collective, ‘The Art of Belonging’ features 20 diverse works in a variety of media and includes figurative and abstract pieces as well as sculpture. All are for sale and prices range from a few hundred pounds for a limited edition print, for example, to several thousand for original work.

The title of the exhibition which is open to the public as well as guests was picked to echo the stylish 161 room hotel’s strapline ‘#Where you Belong’ and its aspiration to make everyone feel at home.

There is a special ‘Culture Curious’ offer to visitors to the gallery which gives 20 per cent off meals in the upstairs Art Yard bar and kitchen. The menu features wood fired pizzettes, slow-cooked beef brisket and pan-fried salmon and there’s a two-course art-themed children’s menu.

The Art of Belonging runs until Spring 2024
