Lady of the Grapes unveils Festive Tasting Menu

Lady of the Grapes wine bar, restaurant and shop on Maiden Lane in Covent Garden will launch a Festive Tasting Menu on 1st December in celebration of its fifth birthday

Lady of the Grapes

Opened in 2018 by Carole Bryon, Lady of the Grapes shines a light on women winemakers offering only organic, biodynamic and natural wines.

The Festive Tasting Menu features six enticing wine-matched dishes prepared by new Head Chef Matyas Plzak. To start, a glass of Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Champagne produced by Marie-Noëlle of Henriet-Bazin is paired with langoustine tartare featuring salt baked white beetroot and lime gel. Staying with Chardonnay, but this time a white Burgundy from Fanny Sabre made in the village of Santenay, hazelnut and yuzu cream and bottarga sit atop a crab crumpet for the second course.

Onto a red wine and the delicate flavours of Pinot Noir made by Juliette and Caroline Chenu compliment the buckwheat and mushroom tart. Then, moving away from France, South African Grenache Blanc pairs with Iberico pork with quince pureé and hipsi cabbage.

The final savoury course is a match of old vintage Chianti Colli Senesi paired with a foie gras and duck breast Pithivier, jus and seasonal leaves.

Finishing on a high note, an ice-cream sandwich duo combining flavours of nuts and vanilla is the perfect match with a tantalising Hungarian Tokaj made by Vivien Ujvári of the Barta Winery.

New Head Chef Matyas Plzak has previously worked at top London restaurants including The Frog, Frenchie and Mãos. The Sous Chef is Magdalena Kowalow and Eliott Buchet is the consultant Executive Chef. The sommelier team are Carole Bryon and Paolo Pascolo.

Owner Carole explains how the simple but flavoursome French bistro style dishes and wine pairings were chosen. “We are collaborating with small farmers, foragers, to source the best seasonal produce around France and the UK. These have been matched with special wines, ones you don’t have every day – all produced by women. They are all very elegant and include some older vintages to compliment the dishes.”

The Lady of the Grapes Festive Tasting Menu is available for dinner from 1st December* priced £75 per person and £155 per person to include the wine pairings. Each of the six dishes can be also enjoyed as separate courses rather than part of the tasting menu.
