South America is a popular destination for flavour-seeking gastronomes. However people are now looking beyond the traditional steak and Malbec combination.

Graffigna’s Head Winemaker Fernando Mengoni says Argentina’s gastronomy grew in response to a need from the wine industry. He explains the country’s fine cuisine now goes beyond steak.

The best pairing is the one you like the most, isn’t it? In Argentina, we have local dishes such as stews or rather hearty soups, like Locro, which go very well with the Reserve Malbec. Mountain trout goes very well with our Pinot Grigio. Graffigna has very good exponents of these varieties,” says Fernando.

Graffigna’s Reserve Malbec and Pinot Grigio are real crowd-pleasers and perfect for your Easter gathering. Plus, the duo are among the best value wines available on the high street at under £10 per bottle.

The 2021 Graffigna Reserve Malbec is made in the exceptional Uco Valley region in Mendoza, renowned as the ultimate location for Malbec production. The valley’s extraordinary conditions consistently yield the finest Malbec, delivering an authentic expression of the grape variety.

Floral, crisp and invigorating, Graffigna Pinot Grigio imparts the true expression of the varietal, with deep aromas, flavours and great concentration.

Peter Morrell, Editor, comments “I have recently tasted both the Malbec and the Pinot Grigio wines from Graffingna, and they are excellent.

The Graffigna Reserve Malbec 2021 had a good mix of dark fruit aromas on the nose, dominated by plum and blackberry. In the mouth the flavours are more powerful that its medium body suggests. On the palate the dark fruit is still there and is joined by cherry and strawberry notes, together with distinct warming spice and black pepper. The soft tannins make the wine very smooth, and the finish has a fruity and peppery character.

The Graffigna Pinot Grigio 2022 has been awarded 90 points by renowned wine critic James Suckling, which is a great endorsement. It has both tropical fruit and floral aromas in the bouquet. In the mouth the wine is light, bright and vibrant and the palate shows white peach and apricot flavours with the addition of crunchy apple, and hints of citrus and herbal notes. The finish is vibrant and uplifting.

This wine is the perfect match for chicken salad and seafood.”

Both wines are available now from Sainsbury’s. Graffigna Reserve Malbec is priced £9.75 per bottle, but reduced to £8.00 between 13th March and 4th April – perfect for Easter. Graffigna Pinot Grigio is priced £9.00 per single bottle, down to £8.00 from 3rd-24th April.
