New Microplane Universal Mill

The latest addition to the Microplane mill collection (already includes both the famous Spice Mill and Chilli Mill)

Microplane Universal Mill

The bigger and wider NEW Microplane Universal Mill, an ingenious tool for grating larger quantities with not one, not two, but three, photo-etched, long-lasting, ultra-sharp, stainless-steel blades, made in the USA; fine, coarse and ribbon.

Practical and stylish for use in the kitchen and at the table

Made in the USA, the blades unrivalled sharpness is achieved by photo-etched technology which was pioneered by Microplane over 50 years ago. The blades and teeth behave like sharp knives to cut effortlessly and precisely without ripping or tearing ingredients and releasing natural aromas to enhance the preparation of stunning dishes every day.

Simply select a blade for the desired ingredient and grating result, insert the ingredient into the body, push down, and twist the top to grate easily and effectively. The fine blade is ideal for grating chocolate, peppercorns and hard spices such as nutmeg, it also transforms Parmesan into a fluffy cloud. The coarse blade works perfectly for all types of hard cheeses, coconut, chocolate and all the different nuts for desserts and breakfast bowls. The ribbon blade works beautifully to create thin strips of hard cheese and vegetables to add texture to salads plus shavings of chocolate for decoration on desserts. The NEW Universal Mill is perfect for using whilst preparing meals and as a table grater, adding a finishing sprinkle of cheese to pasta dishes.

Peter Morrell, Editor comments, “As regular readers will know I am a great fan of Microplane kitchen utensils. They are well made and highly efficient. I have recently been trying their new Universal Mill and it really can add something special to your cooking.

The three different grinding blades can be swapped easily, and there are all manner of things you can either coarsely or finely grate, and make ribbons of your favourite ingredients.

Grating nutmeg is one of my pet hates, I use a traditional four-sided grater and I know the process will result in a grazed knuckle. The Microplane Universal Mill completely eliminates any injury, and you can grate the entire nutmeg.

The theme of eliminating waste keeps recurring, for example grating leftover Parmesan rind into a soup or sauce adds a real umami kick to the flavour, and those annoying fine shards that break off whole cinnamon sticks can be ground to perfection.

The Microplane Universal Mill is also very stylish and will complement a well dressed dinner table, delivering anything from ground sea salt to rainbow peppercorns, and even chocolate to top a post meal latte. This is another winner from Microplane.

The blade is safely positioned at the base (turn left to lock in and right to unlock) of the manual-style Universal Mill. To use, simply remove the top, and pop in the ingredient, replace the top, push down and twist clockwise with one hand while holding the base with the other. For added convenience, the Universal Mill also includes a small airtight compartment on the top to store whole spices including nutmeg and pieces of cinnamon stick.

Grates ingredients for recipes and garnishes easily and efficiently
