Woodforde’s Brewery

Master Crafters of Speciality Beers that are a great gift for Father’s Day

Woodforde’s Brewery is based in the heart of Norfolk and has been creating the finest beer for over 30 years. Using only the very best ingredients; ancient water from beneath the brewery, Norfolk barley and a diverse array of whole hops, Woodforde’s beers are renowned for their popularity, unique flavours and aromas.

Established in Woodbastick, Norfolk in 1981, Woodforde’s Brewery is steeped in heritage, with master crafters of speciality beers pouring their passion into creating unequalled brews from their state-of-the-art brewery nestled within the winding Norfolk Broads. Now, 30 years on from its inception, Woodforde’s tasty and traditional brews are proudly found on tap nationwide.

The Beer: Loved by locals and festival goers alike, Woodforde’s won the hearts of Norfolk residents as well as the Nation. The original Wherry (Amber Ale) has previously been awarded the prestigious Supreme Champion Beer of Britain and remains the brand’s best seller. But with delicious additions to the family such as Nelsons Revenge, Norfolk Nog, Bure Gold, Reedlighter and Norada – the brewery’s latest keg beer, you can trust Woodforde’s to keep creating new flavours while honouring the tastes you already know and love.

The Brewery: Woodforde’s hold regular guided tours led by their Master Brewer Neil Bain, where visitors can experience the sights and sounds of Norfolk’s largest brewery, understand the complex balance of art and science and discover the process involved in creating the brand’s signature beers. The tour ends with a tasting session – ideal for corporate events, stag do’s and beer-lovers alike!

The Shop: As well as enjoying Woodforde’s finest brews nationwide, you can shop at the brewery’s on-site retail store and online too. Bestsellers are the Wherry Home Brewing Kit (from £21.99) and the Bure Gold Beer Box (from £36.50), as well as exclusive Woodforde’s merchandise including emblazoned t-shirts, hats and pint glasses.

Peter Morrell Food Editor commentedIt’s great that Woodforde’s beers are available nationwide in the online shop. I recently tried their mixed box of six beers and they were all delicious.

In the box was Bure Gold, a refreshing Summer drink with U.S. and continental hops, Woodforde’s award winning Wherry Amber Ale which had good grapefruit flavours, Once Bittern Bitter, with a very on-trend taste of spice and citrus, Nelson’s Revenge Bitter, a lovely dry, hoppy beer with citrus notes, Reedlighter Pale Ale, a light refreshing ale and finally Norfolk Nog Dark Ale, a comforting beer for a cold night with hints of chocolate, liquorice and treacle.

This really was an impressive line-up of characterful beers that would please both the enthusiast and anyone who appreciates quality. The mixed box or any of Woodforde’s other beers would make an ideal Father’s Day present.

The Fur & Feather: Woodforde’s very own pub and next-door neighbour is the taste-test location for all the latest blends, where you can experience a seasonal special or sample a new ale. Take your pick from a hearty, locally-sourced menu and enjoy a full selection of famed draught beers on tap. At the helm is new executive Head Chef Charlie Hodson, whose successes include gaining two straight AA rosettes at The Grove. Charlie’s passion for produce, farming, heritage and education is breathing new life into the business and has been instrumental in the recent re-branding of Woodforde’s.

Last year saw Woodforde’s undergo an exciting rebrand, linking with the legacy of Norfolk’s favourite son, Admiral Lord Nelson, whose silhouette is now incorporated in to the brand’s logo. James Hughes (CEO) & Nick Dolan (COO) orchestrated the re-brand and have widened the reach, distribution and profile of Woodforde’s, enhancing the corporate identity of the much-loved company. Between the rebrand, new products, and the dedicated new additions to the team, 2018 is set to be Woodforde’s Brewery’s biggest year yet.
