Peter Morrell attends a fascinating presentation about allergens both in and outdoors and hears about how to combat the symptoms with products made by A Vogel, who have been producing natural and herbal remedies since 1923
Many people think that it’s only outside the home that the air is polluted. It’s true that particulates from diesel engines, brake and tyre dust and pollen are all present in large concentrations in high population areas. However, these pollutants are not the only sources of allergens, there are many more lurking inside your own home and in the workplace.
I listened to a very interesting presentation by Tim Robinson, Head of Science at Airtopia. Airtopia is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of cleaner air and offer a service to test the air quality in private homes.
Tim explained that there are many sources of allergens that people are probably not aware of. These include mould spores, nail polish and hair care products, cosmetics like perfume and deodorants, room fresheners and scented candles, gas hobs, new furniture, smoke from fires, and cleaning materials.
He stressed that keeping the moisture level low in the home and good ventilation are both key to promoting a cleaner living environment. I found the presentation to be very revealing and had no ideas about the extent of the issue.
The next presenter was equally interesting, Alison Cullen, Nutritional Therapist and Education manager at A Vogel. Alison spoke about the effects that allergens both inside and outside the home have on the body. I discovered that as well as runny noses, blocked sinuses and sore throats there is also the risk of longer term conditions that affect organs like the heart and lungs.
Alison continued to explain some of the body’s natural defences like the sinuses. These are a complex network of chambers and tubes that clean the air we breathe. If there are allergens in the air then this mechanism can also suffer. The effects can include inflammation, obstructed sinus tubes, the accumulation of fluid, and infection.
The effects can cause itchy eyes, nasal mucus, plugged nose, facial pain, fever and headaches.
Fortunately, help is at hand with a range of products from A Vogel. These are natural remedies that will give you fast relief I have listed below the range of products that can help you alleviate the effects of allergens.
This was a very interesting session which highlighted the source of allergen problems, the effect on the body and the remedies available.
