Peter Morrell tastes the Tesco Finest 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky and recommends some other festive tipples from their extensive range

Tesco has a vast range of spirits and liqueurs, but which ones do you choose? To help you decide, I have tasted one of Tesco’s own brand whiskies, and picked out a selection of other own label drinks for you to enjoy at Christmas.

I tried the Tesco Finest 12 Year Old Speyside Single Malt Whisky, Expertly crafted by cask master Davide Semple and aged for twelve years in American oak casks has created a well- rounded, smooth winner.

The whisky is attractively packaged in a well-designed presentation sleeve,which makes it ideal for gifting. It pours a light golden colour, and the first sniff reveals layers of complex aromas. There are floral notes together with raisins, lemon and oaky vanilla. As it moves to the palate it reveals a pleasant sweetness with hints of peat smoke, malt, cinnamon and crisp fruit. The finish is exceptionally smooth with a buttery character,
