As we celebrate National Tree week in the UK, De Bortoli’s 17 TREES Plant-A-Tree initiative has hit a milestone of planting 50,000 trees since the launch of 17 TREES in 2020. To put that into perspective, this is equivalent to filling 793 tennis courts with trees. Now that’s a lot of trees!

An integral part of the De Bortoli family mission is to become a Zero Waste Wine Company with the company going well beyond mandatory requirements to adopt environmentally sustainable practices. Following the 17 TREES commitment to plant 1 tree for every 6 bottles sold, we are thrilled to have partnered with not-for-profit organisation Trillion Trees which resulted in 48,000 trees planted in Whiteman Park and Gabbin in Western Australia for the 2021 Trillion Trees Annual Tree Planting. This achievement is a result of the 17 TREES collaborating with our suppliers, distributors, customers and consumers for a sustainable future after the devastating bushfires in Australia.

De Bortoli’s sustainable footprint will not only create a greener future for generations to come, but extend beyond Australia. We are pleased to announce our global tree planting partner One Tree Planted for the 17 TREES Plant-A-Tree initiative. One Tree Planted works with reforestation partners across 43 countries to get trees in the ground and restore forests after fires and floods, create jobs, build communities and protect the habitat for wildlife.

To spread awareness of this new partnership and the importance of trees, De Bortoli has released the 17 TREES Fun Facts which is a great way to learn about all things trees and being socially and environmentally conscious. Follow us on our social platforms.

Thank you for the overwhelming support and do continue to support De Bortoli’s 17 TREES Plant-A-Tree. Every 6 bottles of 17 TREES purchased goes towards planting 1 tree globally.

I recently tasted the 17 Trees Shiraz 2019. This is a big wine in every sense of the word. It pours a dark ruby colour which starts to describe its bold character. On the nose there are strong aromas of plums and blackberries, with hints of pepper and spice, On the palate the fruit persists, and the wine releases a pot pourri of flavours, including chocolate, espresso coffee, tobacco, vanilla and oak. The tannins are well-balanced which gives the wine a full-bodied and very smooth mouthfeel. The finish is long and fruity.

This is a powerful and satisfying wine, and the perfect match for food. Think steaks, casseroles, roast lamb and Stilton cheese.
17 TREES are available at Waitrose (Pinot Grigio and Shiraz) and Amazon, RRP £9.99.

De Bortoli’s philosophy is that great wine begins in the vineyard and should reflect the region where the grapes that made it are grown.
