Tesco Finest Rioja Reserva – £8.50
Peter Morrell, Editor comments “I have tasted the Vina del Cura 2016 Rioja, it’s from the award winning Baron de Ley winery. Tempranillo grapes used to make this wine are hand-harvested, and after fermentation it is aged in oak barrels for a minimum of 16 months. It pours a deep ruby colour, indicative of its depth and character. The bouquet is a basketful of fruit aromas – blackberry, blackcurrant, dark plum, and hunts of vanilla. On the palate the fruit flavours are joined by oak, stronger vanilla spice, and tobacco flavours. The tannins are well structured making the wine very smooth. The finish is long, fruity, and persistent.
“This wine would make the ideal companion for slow roasted lamb shoulder, steaks, and casseroles, and it’s remarkable value for money.”
